Unconditional: A Novel

Sam’s husband is murdered in the projects and she is determined to end her own life in the very spot in which he died. Plans change as a young girl is involved in a hit-and-run, landing Sam and her two young friends in the hospital. She soon runs into Joe, a childhood friend who is dying of kidney disease. He’s a hero in the projects, offering treats to children with good report cards, food boxes to alleviate their hunger, and of course, mentoring them (they call him Papa Joe) so that they can have options. Sam finds a new purpose in life and catches a glimpse of whom she believes is her husband’s killer. Question is… will she pull the trigger on him or spare his life?

What warms my heart is that Papa Joe and his wife are real people. This is such an inspiring story. I have to admit that I thought there was some romantic tension between Sam and Joe, but as it turns out, they were merely friends!

Disclosure: I received a free copy in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own!
