Summer Family Fun

Though I don’t expect to see any more rain for a few more months, we did have a few days of rain last week, providing the perfect ambience for a movie marathon.
My daughter snagged the popcorn and the soft fleece blanket, mama claimed the chocolate and we were comfy cozy until, inevitably, the rain lulled mama to sleep!
Of course, during my nap, my daughter had a clever plan. She emerged from the bathroom looking like THIS:

Ahh, the joys of being a parent! I suppose this turned out better than most sleepovers. She could have drawn on me with a Sharpie or something.
We spent the rest of our day making homemade crafting dough, which, by the way, is the best I’ve ever tried!
Ingredients:
2 cups flour
2 cups hot water
3/4 cup salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3/4 cup cream of tartar
Food coloring
Step 1:
Mix flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a bowl. Add oil and water and knead either with the dough hook of a standing mixer (5-6 minutes) or by hand (8-10 minutes) until the dough is soft and workable.
Step 2:
Make a divot in the center of the dough, add a few drops of food coloring and fold dough working coloring through (you may want to divide dough into several balls for a variety of colors).
Step 3:
When you’re done playing, store your craft dough in an air-tight container (if it begins to dry out, you can knead a bit of water in again to soften the dough).
Redbox and Phase 4 Films have partnered up to provide 8 Family-Friendly films as part of the Summer Family Fun campaign. Kiara, Space Dogs, Smitty, Freddy Frogface, and Donkey X have been released and next month, you can expect to see My Friend Bernard, Rockstars, and I Heart Shakey.
In celebration of these releases, there are some fantastic sweepstakes being offered by Redbox:
Until July 29th, you can enter to win a 4 day West Coast Princess Cruise for 4 (including round trip airfare!)
From July 30-August 26, 2012, you can win a 7 day vacay for 4 to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
To be automatically entered, you can provide your email address when renting one of the above mentioned titles at Redbox locations. No purchase is necessary. Read the complete rules here.
If you’ve never used a Redbox or simply do not know where your nearest Redbox is located, use this link to find out.
We really enjoyed these movies! Kiara and Space Dogs are available on Netflix and it is possible some of the others are or will be also. This kit is an incredible idea for rainy days, dates, and gift giving. I am definitely going to keep this in mind for birthdays and fundraisers. I highly encourage you to create your own as well!

Disclosure: I received the “Rainy Day S-O-S” kit in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own!
