Year-round Costumes

fairy costumes

I get annoyed that costumes come to our local stores only once a year. Don’t they realize that there are people who are trying to stock up dress-up areas for their children? Imaginary play is a big part of being a kid, except “the feel” is not complete without appropriate props and attire. If you’ve ever worn a uniform, you understand that it’s a part of your identity. It’s “official” and can give you authority and self-confidence.

When we played doctor, we needed our little stethoscope and white coat, and when we played chef, we needed the chef’s hat — otherwise it didn’t feel right. Capes are for heroes (or villains). Elves aren’t complete without the ears and kids fairy costumes aren’t complete without wands and wings.

Seeing how much my daughter loved her very first holiday dress that she received last month, I knew she’d love to dress up in the Copper Fairy costume provided by Costume Discounters.

She was excited to have a “Halloween Costume,” thinking it was right around the corner again. I had to burst her bubble and gently remind her that it was still many months away. The disappointment on her face was just precious.

It quickly faded as she slipped on the wings and the dress. To my disappointment, I should have ordered a size up to give her room to grow. The arms were a little tight, though that was resolved by taking out the seams. I was also surprised to see that the overskirt was attached by velcro rather than being pulled on. It looked fabulous, though.

Eventually, it came to a point where my daughter was only interested in the wings, so now they’re so worn that there are multiple holes in it. I wish I had some video footage of her trying to flap her wings. LOL. Too cute!

She’ll probably be too big for it by the time Halloween rolls around (kids grow so fast, don’t they?), though I am certain that her teachers will make good use of it in the classroom.

Of course, I could have taken advantage of the free size exchange, but I decided to make do.

Disclosure: I was provide this free costume in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Costume Discounters is kindly sponsoring a giveaway as well! One of my lucky readers will get to pick out his/her very own costume for kids (max retail value of $35). If a child you know has a birthday coming up, you might want to snag this.
