Bowdabra Bow Maker

bowdabra

At our parent meeting in December, we held a crafting session so we could create handmade gifts and cards. One person brought in the Bowdabra, which she used to create beautiful bows for her gift baskets. I kinda raised an eyebrow. I mean, it was hard enough for me to wrap gifts, let alone attempt to make some fancy bows. Those little stick-on ones at the dollar store looked so cheesy, so for years, I just went without.

The holidays passed and I still had Bowdabra on the brain, so I thought, “What do I have to lose?” The holidays may be over, but hey, Valentines Day is right around the corner… and birthday gifts could use bows, too! I was thrilled that they agreed to send me one to review.

What’s great about this tool is that you don’t need crafting experience or dexterity. The founder, Sandy Sandler, created the Bowdabra because she personally experienced the struggle of making professional looking bows for corporate gifts. She was also dissatisfied with other complicated and not so well-made products on the market.

The towers on the Bowdabra create tension as you push the ribbon down and make the loops for your bows. No more asking the hubs to “hold this for a sec.” It’s that easy. It’s compatible with your material of choice. If you can fit it in the Bowdabra, it’ll work!

Here’s my first attempt at the basic bow. I’m actually quite proud of it! My daughter was saying, “It is BEAUTIFUL, mama!” My fiance, in his usual unenthusiastic tone, told me, “Ooh… pretty…” and went right back to playing his video game. Well, he tried. Didn’t spoil my mood any!

The others require a few more steps, but I’m pretty good at origami, so I’m sure I’ll figure it out. ;)

Are you in wedding-planning mode? Make your OWN pew bows! Gifting a potted plant? Wrap a bow around it for a personalized touch.

Oh, and with the Bowdabra, you’ll be well on your way to making one of these:

Disclosure: I was sent the Bowdabra and some ribbon in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Want one? OF COURSE you do. There is one Bowdabra along with an assortment of ribbon (prize value of $35) set aside for one of my lucky readers. The box does come with instructions on disc and a 1 year VIP Membership to Bowdabra.

  3. Ohh, I’ve been wondering if these are any good! I agree that the stick on bows tend to be a fair bit lackluster!
